Flying Humanoid Seen over Elgin, According to Sighting Shared on Social Media
A reported sighting of a flying humanoid sent to Manuel Navarette at UFO Clearinghouse on August 6th, first came from the social media site Reddit, where it was posted August 2nd. The initial details of the sighting are the same, but the poster gave additional details in answer to questions in the comment section of the Reddit post. The sighting reportedly took place in Elgin, Illinois, a city around 30 miles from Lake Michigan, at approximately 11:45 a.m on August 1st.
The initial sighting report states,
I may have seen him gliding away from Chicago. I work in Elgin about a mile away from 90 and about 45 mins to [Chicago]. I was outside of my work and Ive[sic] been keeping my eyes to the sky recently due to all of the commotion about Mothman and I may have seen him gliding West away from the city, parallel to 90.
He was very high up but I could tell it was very big, but it was the odd shape that made me think it was the Mothman. It looked like a person in one of those Squirl[sic] glider suits but I don’t know where someone would have jumped from and I don’t know if people can even get as high as this thing was in those suits. It was at the hight[sic] of mid flighing[sic] plane. The odd thing was that this was right around 11:45AM 8/1. Where as all the other sightings have been in Chicago and at night.

It looked just like the thing in that pic that you have on your #1 sighting. The pic with the native american statue. It looked darker though, but that could have just been the distance that it was, because it was high and it was going away from me also. I was hoping it would turn around but it just kept going on a strait[sic] glide West. I was getting my phone out too late it would have looked like a dot if I would have tried to get a pic, that’s why I was hoping it would turn around because I had my phone out ready to take a video. I didn’t notice it flapping its wings either, that’s why I keep saying that it was gliding. And it kept in a very strait[sic] direct motion. I plan on taking breaks for the next few weeks around this time in case it passes again.
Since this day it has been very cloudy out so I haven’t been able to get a good look at the sky but I believe I might have seen it in the distance the next day playing in the clouds. If it is a creature of habit I hope it’ll keep passing around my area around the same time. Like I said I saw something that looked like a person in one of those squirrel suites but if you know the suburbs, there is probably no way it could have been. I have been watching the skies even closer since then and at this point I wanna say whatever I saw would have been the size of a small plane possibly. But I didn’t have anything to reference the size since it was so far up.
Initially, the witness was asked by users on Reddit to identify the being's size, but the witness readily admitted that they were unable to give a definitive answer.
"I really have no point of reference. All the buildings around there are only pretty much 2 stories high. If I'd have to guess I'd have to say at least 50, at least, that many stories high. It could have been much higher. It is just hard to tell out here. Very low buildings all around. Also without that point of reference it is very hard for me to tell the size. From any bird that I have seen, at that distance, it is very large. It was prob around 7 - 10 times bigger then[sic] any other birds out at the moment. I was very hesitant to post this whole post because this thing was very far away and I can't give exact details to these questions," wrote the witness.
The witness went on to speculate regarding the nature of what they saw.
I don't think it could have been a person considering how high it was and I am not sure of any tall enough place around that it could have jumped off of for it to glide so high. I also don't know how those winged suits work either but I can't imagine it would let someone get that high and just glide along. Drone would be more likely, but it would be quite elaborate and it traveled quite a distance, which I don't think the normal ones have that distance capability. Bird would be the next most likely possibility but due to the oddness in shape, I don't believe it was a bird. If I didn't know any better, I would say it was a man in one of those squirle[sic] suits but like I said, too far from any tall thing to jump off of and too high for me to believe that.
This is the fourth sighting in the 2017 flap to have taken place outside of Chicago proper, and is the farthest away from Chicago and Lake Michigan. It is also the sighting reported to be earliest in the day.
So far, most of the sightings have taken place in the lakefront area within a few miles of Lake Michigan, although there are some starting to come from the suburbs and cities surrounding Chicago. The sightings generally take place in the evening or at night, often in or near a park and around water, and witnesses consistently describe a large, bat or bird-like creature with humanoid features; although in one case the creature was reportedly "insect-like."
