Los Angeles, California resident Mauro Restrepo is suing a Palos Verdes Estates psychic for fraud, alleging that she falsely promised to remove a curse cast on him by a witch his ex-girlfriend hired.

Restrepo reportedly paid the woman $5,100 to remove the curse.

According to the lawsuit brought in Torrance Superior Court, Restrepo found the website of Sophia Adams while searching for psychics online last month. Adams has licenses for psychic services and related businesses issued by the city of Gardena and runs Psychic Love Specialist by Sophia out of her leased Palos Verdes Estates home.

Adams' website lists her as a "PhD Life Coach" and offers services including chakra evaluation, love life analysis, psychometry, aura cleansing, and crystal light therapy.

Restrepo's suit states that seeing her identify as a PhD “made the plaintiff more confident that he was speaking with a professional that could help him."

After contacting Adams, Restrepo and the psychic exchanged text messages prior to him meeting her for a session at her business, during which she performed a tarot card reading and told him he had "mala suerte," or "bad luck."

The suit alleges that Adams told Restrepo the bad luck was placed on him by a witch hired by his ex-girlfriend, and that unless he removed the curse, he and his family would be "unhappy and in danger."

This bad luck would reportedly ruin Restrepo, his children, and his marriage unless he paid Adams $5,100 to remove it, but "despite [Adams’] promises, [she] did not in any way help [Restrepo's] marriage.”

Restrepo alleges he has suffered sleepless nights, anxiety, and anguish as a result of the ordeal, and furthermore claims that although her husband, daughter, and landlords all know that Adams has used her home and business to harm others in the community, they have done nothing to stop her.

As a result, Restrepo is seeking at least $25,000 in compensatory damages, plus punitive damages, for "negligence, civil conspiracy, and both intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress" from Sophia Adams and her business; her husband, George R. Adams; her daughter, Tiffany Winston, aka Tiffany Johnson and Tiffany Adams; and Adams' landlords, Christ and Polly Koutroumbis.

The witch allegedly responsible for the curse and Restrepo’s ex-girlfriend were not named in the suit.
