NASA's Mystery Sphere Sparks Conspiracy Theory

A strange sphere purportedly streaking across the sun last Thursday has sparked conspiracy theories across the Internet.  The images were captured on November 17th by cameras on board one of NASA’s STEREO (Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory) satellites.  Conspiracy theorists and UFO enthusiasts speculate that the object could be anything from the planet Nibiru to a friendly spacecraft, but the government space agency explains the image away as a corrupted image.

According to NASA, "On rare occasions, the SECCHI image processor on board STEREO becomes overloaded, and produces corrupted images.  Because the images from the Heliospheric Imager (HI) telescopes are built up from a large number of exposures added together, this sometimes results in ‘double exposures,’ where data from several telescopes appear in the same image.”
