John Glenn Dead at 95
John Glenn, marine, war hero, aviator, engineer, and astronaut, has passed away in his home state of Ohio at the age of 95. Glenn became the first astronaut to orbit the earth and the fifth person in space when he flew the Friendship 7 mission in 1962. After retiring as an astronaut, the man Tom Wolfe described as "the last true national hero America has ever made," served four terms in Congress, became the oldest man in space in 1998 at the age of 77, and was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2011.
