Injuries from Exorcism Blamed for Priest's Passing
According to a recent documentary on Netflix, the priest who was the inspiration for the movie The Exorcist may have died as a result of injuries sustained during an exorcism. Father Malachi Martin was an Irish Catholic priest, a best-selling author, and a professor at a Pontifical Institute in Rome, in addition to a participant in thousands of exorcisms.
In an interview for the documentary Hostage to the Devil, one witness reports that Martin received a devastating head injury during his final exorcism, which took place in 1999. The witness, former CIA agent Robert Marrow, describes how the priest heard a 4-year-old victim of possession speak to him during the exorcism, before being pushed down by an invisible force. Martin later died of a cerebral hemorrhage in his Manhattan apartment.
