An image of a triangle UFO with three red lights sent to Australian news outlet news.com.au bears an uncanny resemblance to an image used by UK publication the Daily Mail last December.

News.com.au wrote in an article accompanying the image that it was sent to them by Paul Steinberg, who said he spotted the UFO with his daughter in their driveway on September 1st at around 8 p.m. He then called his wife and two other children, who came from inside their home in North Caufield, a suburb of Melbourne, to witness the object.

The Singular Fortean Society searched for other images similar to that submitted by Steinberg, and found an identical match from an article ran by the Daily Mail in 2017. That article stated that the image had come from YouTube channel UFO Today, which claimed the black triangle UFO had been seen over Russia.

It is unclear at this time who is responsible for the error, and whether or not this represents a deliberate hoax.

News.com.au has been contacted regarding the issue, and this article will be updated with any response.

The Singular Fortean Society advises caution before believing in any purported evidence found online, unless the source is trusted implicitly.
