Spanish Man 'Possessed by the Devil' Crashes Car into Church in Search of Safety
A Spanish motorist who claimed he was “possessed by the devil” was taken to the hospital earlier this month, following an incident in which he crashed his Jeep through the doors of San Juan Evangelista Church in Toledo, Spain.
The man was spotted in the early hours of January 8th trying to drive through the church’s front door, but couldn’t break through at first, said Mariano Perea, a spokesman for local police.
He was confronted by a woman who came to check on him, suspecting he’d had an accident, but she was scared away when he rolled down his window and began shouting at her.
The man continuously rammed his vehicle into the church's door until it gave way, while the woman called emergency services.
He was able to drive through the church to its altar, smashing aside the pews in his way.
Civil Guard agents later found the man “visibly disturbed” next to the altar, where he told them it was the only place he believed he would be safe.

The man sustained several injuries as a result of the crash and was taken to the Virgen de la Salud de Toledo hospital for observation.
No one else was reportedly injured during the incident.
Spanish media sources are reporting that it's possible the man could have suffered a psychotic break, perhaps induced by drugs or alcohol.
The man has not been named, although it was reported that he owns a shop which sells cannabis-related products near the church.
According to local authorities, the case is currently under investigation and the man may be arrested at a later date.
