The New Jersey Devils professional hockey team is named for the New Jersey Pine Barren's most famous resident, the Jersey Devil.  A fan poll held in 1982 with over 10,000 participants is responsible for the team's devilish moniker--a testament to the popularity of the legend in New Jersey.
