Paranormal Pop Culture: Jersey Devil, the Video Game

Jersey Devil was a video game released for the Playstation platform in the late 1990s.  It featured a titular character whose enigmatic past saw him thrust into the laboratory of a mad scientist, which he promptly destroyed during his escape.  The game then pit its hero--the "Jersey Devil"--against mutant plants in a fight to save his adopted city of "Jersey." 

The game bears little resemblance to any established lore regarding the Jersey Devil, and appears to be an attempt to profit from name recognition.  The 1990s did see a sort of paranormal renaissance, with the introduction of shows like The X-Files, and it seems likely that the popularity of paranormal subjects at that time influenced the marketing behind this game.
