Skunk Ape
The skunk ape is said to inhabit the backwater swamps of Florida, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Arkansas. It's also known as the swamp cabbage man, swamp ape, and stink ape, largely due to its overpowering odor--which witnesses often compare to rotting garbage, methane or skunks. Skunk apes are described as large, powerful, hairy hominids that can stand in excess of seven feet tall. They are most often compared to Bigfoot, and many believe that they represent a southern variation of the cryptid. Much like its northern cousin, tales of the skunk ape go back as far as the original indigenous inhabitants of the lands it occupies, and sightings of the creature continue into the modern day.
