One of the most well-known and beloved paranormal investigators of the modern era, psychic medium Lorraine Warren passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday night at the age of 92.

Lorraine, along with her husband Ed, founded the New England Society for Psychic Research in 1952. The Warrens were said to have investigated over 10,000 cases in their career; including the inspirations for the popular Annabelle, Amityville Horror, and The Conjuring horror film franchises. The Warrens were controversial figures, often at odds with scientific skeptics and rival investigators who accused them of embellishment and fraud, but their influence on paranormal investigation is undeniable, and it is likely the field would have much less mainstream acceptance without their work.

Lorraine survived Ed by almost thirteen years. He died in 2006 at the age of 79.
