Police in Richmond, Kentucky arrested Waco resident Samuel Riddell, 55, following an incident earlier this month in which he reportedly fired multiple shots out of his hotel room window at “aliens” in the parking lot.

According to a statement released by the Richmond Police Department, officers responded "to a local hotel on Keeneland Drive in reference to a report of gunfire" on September 11th, 2021 at around 3:27 a.m. Upon arrival, police discovered the shots were being fired from a hotel window and "worked quickly to get patrons out of the hotel and secure them in a safe location nearby."

Officers with the Richmond Police Emergency Response Unit were called to the scene and "made contact with a male inside the room who was identified as Samuel Riddell (55) of Waco, [Kentucky]."

Riddell was in the room with an unidentified woman who had locked herself in the bathroom. Police were able to safely remove the woman and Riddell was taken into custody.

Riddell later told detectives that he had “observed aliens in the parking lot and was shooting at them."

There were no injuries reported after the incident, although police later discovered several bullets had struck vehicles in the parking lot, and one had entered an adjacent occupied room.

Riddell was a convicted felon and was in possession of two handguns and a semi-automatic rifle.

He is being charged with four counts of 1st degree wanton endangerment involving a police officer, two counts of 1st degree wanton endangerment, two counts of 1st degree criminal mischief, one count of 2nd degree criminal mischief, one count of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The intersection of firearms and the paranormal is more common than one might think.

In July of 2018, Christian J. Devaux, a self-described paranormal investigator living in Tolland, Connecticut, faced charges following an incident in which he fired a gun at a phantom home invader; later that year, in December, a man out target shooting on public land near Helena, Washington was shot at by another man who "mistook him for Bigfoot.”

More recently, in 2019, park rangers responded to a report of shots having been fired at a bigfoot in Mammoth Cave National Park.
