Reports from the Void: 'I Saw an Orb over Lake Huron'

Reports from the Void is a repository to share those stories for which we do not have enough information to make a full report. This is usually because of little or no communication from the witness following their initial submission. The Singular Fortean Society received the following email on February 3rd, 2024.

I saw an orb over Lake Huron in February 2023, a day or two before the shootdown occurred over the lake. It was at my family cottage near the southern tip of the lake, which is about 100 miles south of the shootdown. I watched it move randomly around the skyline for about 45 minutes. It was below freezing with 30mph wind gusts. That afternoon beforehand I did attempt a CE5 encounter. It was my first attempt at such contact, and I have tried a few times since without success. My family lost possession of the cottage at the end of 2023; it's quite a long story and unrelated.
I was on Kettle Point, I believe, and the object was around Lexington, Michigan. At one point, it flew towards Port Huron, much higher and faster than the helicopters fly along the coast.

Investigator Tobias Wayland replied to the email in an attempt to gather more information but received no response.

The “shootdown” referenced by this witness refers to one of several mysterious objects brought down by fighter jets over North America in February of 2023.

The origin and nature of the unidentified flying objects remains unknown, although a few details have emerged.

One object over Alaska was reportedly the size of a small car and "cylindrical and silver-ish gray,” while another one taken down over Canada was described as a “small, metallic balloon with a tethered payload below it,” and the aforementioned object over Lake Huron was said to be octagonal with strings hanging off the side and no discernible payload.

None of the objects reportedly showed any signs of propulsion or maneuverability.

Both the U.S. and Canadian governments have claimed not to have recovered any wreckage from the downed objects.

In an example of synchronicity, Kettle Point, the location from which this witness spotted their orb, is known for its spherical rock formations.

CE5 refers to a process to contact UFOs and their occupants which was invented by Dr. Stephen Greer.

Dr. Greer is a retired traumatologist who founded the Center for the Study of Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (CSETI) in 1990. CSETI was ostensibly founded to create a diplomatic and research-based initiative to contact extraterrestrial civilizations, and Dr. Greer largely focuses on ‘Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind (CE5)’—direct communication between aliens and humans involving "bilateral contact experiences through conscious, voluntary, and proactive human-initiated cooperative communication with extraterrestrial intelligence."

This witness did not report any direct communication with the orb they encountered, although it is not unusual for witnesses to do so.

Sightings of mysterious orbs are relatively common and are sometimes associated with a variety of anomalous phenomena including ghosts, aliens, and bigfoot and other cryptids.

Last month, The Singular Fortean Society was contacted by a woman who wished to share two separate encounters she’d had with orbs in Arizona.

That report was inspired by a ‘Reports from the Void’ that described a series of anomalous glowing orb sightings which reportedly occurred “out in the desert, east towards the mountains on the alluvial plain at the vidock curve of the Florence Junction east of Phoenix, Arizona.”

In early 2023, North Carolina man Christopher Bledsoe recounted a series of encounters with seemingly intelligent glowing orbs to British tabloid the Daily Mail.

And later that year, The Singular Fortean Society was contacted by Georgia resident Paula Adams, who wished to report an anomalous glowing orb seen by her and her daughter one Sunday night.

Also in 2023, a witness reported psychic contact with a series of spherical objects to The Singular Fortean Society.

In addition, a man in Indiana near the Prairie Creek Reservoir has spoken to The Singular Fortean Society about a series of glowing orb sightings that span from 1981 to 2020 which could be related to winged humanoid sightings in the area.

And in 2022, The Singular Fortean Society was contacted by Shane Taylor, 44, who wished to report an encounter with a multitude of seemingly friendly orange orbs he’d had on Christmas Eve of 2014.
