Mothman and the Minnesota Bridge Collapse
Thirteen people died and 145 were injured when the bridge on Interstate 35 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, gave way during rush hour on August 1st, 2007. After the disaster, some people claimed to have seen a Mothman-like creature near the bridge about a month prior to its collapse. Unlike the collapse of the Silver Bridge in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, reports of the creature came in only after the tragedy had occurred; there was no preceding build-up of paranormal phenomena that culminated in the calamity. Skeptics think that this may be a trick of human memory, and people’s minds are twisting sightings of a large heron or crane into that of the ominous monster. But believers are beginning to wonder if perhaps Mothman and similar flying humanoids aren’t, in fact, paranormal portents of upcoming catastrophes.
