The following story was left as a comment on the article entitled 'Bat-Like' Flying Humanoid with 'an Obvious Face' Reported near Indiana's Prairie Creek Reservoir, published by the Singular Fortean Society on January 26th, 2019. The comment was left less than a month later on February 20th.

Gonna tell my story. Three years ago, I went to Muncie to rescue a one-and-a-half-year-old dog. While driving home, I thought I had lost my mind when I [saw] a creature [like the one] described in the article. It wasn't six to seven feet [long]. It looked more like it was about five feet [long]. It was creepy as hell. The dog was freaked out, too. She got onto the floor in the back, cowering and shaking. I felt like the thing followed us for awhile. It was not pleasant in any shape or form.

Anyone that doesn't believe it, that's okay. You had to be there. Just remember, if anything spooky happens to you be aware of people not believing you. I know what I saw.

The original comment is no longer visible on the article, since the Singular Fortean Society website switched to a new commenting system. No email address was given and no follow up was able to be performed.

The sighting in the article on which the comment was left took place on December 26th, 2018, between 4-4:30 pm, while the sighting reported in the comment can be assumed to have occurred sometime in 2016.

In the sighting report from the article, the witness described seeing a “bat-like” flying humanoid with “an obvious face” while “traveling southbound on a county road, about a mile south of the Prairie Creek Reservoir near Muncie, Indiana.”

According to Lon Strickler of Phantoms & Monsters, who took the original report, the witness told him that the creature’s “body had a length of approximately six to seven feet, with bat-like wings that were extremely wide. The being was dark-colored, and seemed to glide at a steady speed. He never noticed the flapping of wings while watching the creature."

This Report from the Void is one of three involving weird, winged humanoids in Indiana.

The other two describe a "large dark winged creature" that came up "from out of a drainage ditch" just outside of Roanoke, and something with "leathery, almost shiny, wings" seen crouched in the road near Muncie.

Roanoke is just under 60 miles north of Muncie.

Three officially published sightings of weird, winged humanoids—including the one already mentioned—have so far been reported near Muncie, Indiana; one each in 2007, 2011, and 2018.

These sightings all centered around the Prairie Creek Reservoir, which is around two miles southeast of Muncie, and approximately 140 miles southeast of Lake Michigan. Less than five miles to its south is Summit Lake State Park. Gary, Indiana—a city on the southern shore of Lake Michigan—has also seen a recent spate of flying creature reports, and is the same distance from this sighting location as the great lake, around 140 miles to the west of the reservoir.

A man near the Prairie Creek Reservoir has also spoken to the Singular Fortean Society about a series of glowing orb sightings from 1981 to 2020 that could be related to the Lake Michigan Mothman phenomenon.

This report constitutes the latest news in a string of ‘Mothman’ sightings from within a few hundred mile radius surrounding Lake Michigan, including every state bordering the great lake. These sightings ostensibly began in the spring of 2017, but more historical accounts are being reported as more people become aware of the phenomenon. They generally take place in the evening or at night, often in or near a park, and around water.  Witnesses consistently describe a large, gray or black, bat or bird-like creature—although in a small number of cases the creature was described as insect-like—sometimes with glowing or reflective red, yellow, green, or orange eyes, and humanoid features such as arms and legs are often reported. Some witnesses have reported feeling intense fear and an aura of evil emanating from the creature they encountered.  Many of the sightings are also of something seen only briefly or are described only as a flying creature with few details, which leaves open the possibility that a large bird or bird-like being could explain some—although certainly not all—of the encounters. A number of associated high strangeness incidents have also occurred alongside the creature sightings; including reports of UFOs, other anomalous flying creatures and mysterious humanoids, parapsychological phenomena, and bizarre events experienced by those investigating the sightings.

Reports from the Void is a repository to share those stories for which we do not have enough information to make a full report. This is usually because of little or no communication from the witness following their initial submission. The Singular Fortean Society will always provide as much information as possible regarding any correspondence during our attempts to speak with those involved.

This series is meant only to present you with the full breadth of the information sent to us, and makes no judgments towards the veracity of any stories shared within it.
