Reports from the Void: 'I Woke Up Really Anxious and Felt Something was Wrong'
The Singular Fortean Society received the following email in October of 2020 from a woman who said that she had awoken suddenly one night to the feeling that “something was wrong.”
I was just wondering if you have anyone who might tell me what it was I saw. It was the night after Mother’s Day. It was an especially beautiful day spent with all six of my kids. I went to bed, and around 2:30 a.m. I was awoken by a loud humming noise, but as I became more awake the noise disappeared. I woke up really anxious and felt something was wrong.
I went and checked on all my kids but they were all asleep. I looked out the window to my front yard and I saw this ball of light, a bit bigger than a basketball, hovering above the ground sort of scanning the front of my house .
I looked down the street and there were no cars with lights. It was dead quiet and still. Anyway, I was scared so I just wanted to go back to sleep to forget what happened. What was that?
Investigator Tobias Wayland asked the woman for more information about her sighting.
“Have you had any other unusual experiences, especially around that time? Missing time, unusually vivid dreams, sleep walking, waking up with strange marks on your body, sightings of unidentified flying objects, etc.?” he asked in his response.
According to the woman,
Yes, actually, when I woke up I looked at my wall and there was a blinking orange light. I thought it was weird coming from outside. I thought maybe they were doing road work, but when I looked out the window there was nothing. The night was so still and quite.
Then, exactly a year later, my daughter, who was three, woke up and asked me if we live in space. I asked her why she would say that, and she said she woke up in the night and looked out the window and saw a space ship with a man in the window and drew it. It was weird because she was only three. And what she drew was an oval shape with a man in the window.
I have seen space ships before when living in Los Angels, California, but that was when I was younger and it was common to me. I haven’t had that experience here in Oregon . This felt personal, like something came specifically to me, to my house.
At that point, Wayland asked the woman if she’d be willing to be interviewed over the phone. While she did agree to the interview and provide her phone number, the investigator was ultimately unable to reach the woman.
Reports of orbs are not uncommon in cases where witnesses believe they are being observed by some otherworldly intelligence. The Singular Fortean Society has investigated multiple reports of glowing orbs, including one in which a woman in Kenosha, Wisconsin, said that she awoke one late summer night in 2009 to find a “charcoal-colored cloud shape” emanating an “amber light” near the ceiling of her bedroom, and another from a woman in Rogers, Minnesota, who said that glowing orbs had appeared in her house around the same time a shadow person seemed to be observing her grandson while he slept.
Reports from the Void is a repository to share those stories for which we do not have enough information to make a full report. This is usually because of little or no communication from the witness following their initial submission. The Singular Fortean Society will always provide as much information as possible regarding any correspondence during our attempts to speak with those involved.
This series is meant only to present you with the full breadth of the information sent to us, and makes no judgments towards the veracity of any stories shared within it.
