Mysterious Figure Caught on Camera During Urban Exploration Expedition
Matt Nadin and Andy Thompson of Finders Beepers History Seekers, an urban exploration channel on YouTube, were filming an excursion into the Mossley Manor Care Home in Liverpool, England, last August, when Nadin spotted what appears to be a mysterious figure moving at the top of a stairwell.
The video has seen renewed interest since then from those interested in the paranormal following a clip of the sighting being shared to YouTube channel Caters Clips at the end of February, 2021.
Viewers of the video are torn between believing that another living person was present—perhaps a squatter—and the possibility of a paranormal explanation.
At approximately 19:30 into the video, something can be seen moving on a small landing as the two men ascend the stairs.
Whatever it is appears to have something reflective on it, and Nadin and Thompson react with surprise before calling out, “Hello.”
After receiving no response, they approach the area where the figure seemed to be moving, but ultimately find no one.
The figure appears to move from left to right, towards a dead end, before seemingly vanishing. However, as some have pointed out, if it was a living person, they may have had time to move back across the landing while Nadin was panning around with the camera immediately following the sighting.
Skeptics point to that possibility, along with the reflective material present on the figure, as reasons why this video is likely to be of a living human.
Regardless, believers in the paranormal still find the figure’s disappearance to be strange, and argue that the building’s history makes it more likely to be haunted.
The Mossley Manor Care Home was shut down in 2015 following the discovery of the deplorable conditions in which its residents were kept. That history of abuse and neglect could be one reason it’s haunted, believers say; the pent-up emotional energy inhabiting such a building making it more likely to exhibit paranormal phenomena, such as a residual haunting or even the spirit of a former resident who has not moved on.
In addition, Finders Beepers History Seekers is not a show meant to explore the paranormal, given its focus on urban exploration, which adds to the authenticity of the mystery for some viewers.
"See, this is more convincing than most ghost videos [because] your channel isn't even about ghosts, so it's not even like you have constant pressure to deliver the goods. I mean, what was that? The only thing I can think of is an unusual shadow cast via the torch as you look upwards. But that's a bit of a stretch since there's nothing visible to cast the shadow and it moves behind the ceiling. So any shadow cast would surely move along the celling if you [were] causing it," one viewer commented. "So, I [don't know], this is unironically the most interesting ghost video there is."
