Video of Spinning 'UFO' Recorded During Rush Hour Traffic in Shelby, North Carolina
A video recorded at around 8 am during rush hour traffic the morning of October 25th appears to show a strange, spinning object captured above U.S. Highway 74 in Shelby, North Carolina.
The video was taken by Aaron Bostic, 33, before being uploaded to a family friend’s YouTube channel.
Bostic was stuck in traffic on U.S. 74 in Shelby when he spotted the “diamond shaped object glowing really brightly” against a cloudy sky. It appeared to be rotating, he told the McClatchy news group.
“It really stuck out like a sore thumb and I kept thinking that maybe it was a plane landing at Charlotte Douglas (International) Airport or maybe it was a really big stunt drone, but it stayed in the same spot for two minutes,” said Bostic.
“Honestly, I don’t know what it was and nobody at work who has seen the video knows what it was,” he added. “I’m not a believer in that kind of stuff, but we’ve had all this come out about UFOs and the military. You sort of have to question what you believe.”
Reactions to the video have been mixed, and many can’t decide which object in the picture represents a reflection, and which represents the thing causing it.
The video points to the object lower in the frame as a reflection of the object above the treeline, but it appears more distinct and in-focus.
"The upper image is the reflection on the car window, the lower object is [a] drone," responded Gordon Stark to the video on YouTube.
Unfortunately, the quality of the video doesn’t lend itself well to analysis.
"[I] can’t really tell if its a Goodyear type blimp or one of those silvery cigar-shaped UFOs," commented Molly Lenore.
"The footage is so short it's hard to say. Kinda looks like a small, lone cloud hanging low in the sky. I don't know what the spinning thing is," said another commenter.
“I think there’s a good chance both of the objects are reflections,” Singular Fortean Society photo analyst Emily Wayland said. “They’re stationary, nearly identical, and aligned in a way that makes it seem like they could both be reflections of the same light. The spinning could be caused by the motion of the vehicle or camera. Unfortunately, the video is too short for us to be able to discern the potential source of the reflection or how long it lasted.”
Bostic told McClatchy that he considered the object might be a helicopter but saw no flashing lights, and added that it didn’t have the right contours to be a blimp.
This is the twelfth UFO sighting reported in North Carolina last October, based on numbers compiled by the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).
